Jim Martin's Guide Service featured in the Feb 4th edition of the Weekly Hook

Weeklyhook_2410Guide Jim Martin and his client, Taylor Osbun were featured on the front page of the Weekly Hook, show off their just rewards after a nice float on the Siuslaw River.

Also in this issue Jim's Fishing Report:

Jim Martin reports back in from the Siuslaw River and Lake Creek (tributary to the Siuslaw). Jim’s boat hooked four last Sunday, landing nearly all of them. The Siuslaw continues to be pretty steady with a pretty good flow and water levels for most of the season. Jim wanted to remind us that a lot of those early running fish are starting to head back down stream after they’ve spawned out. Jim encourages, and I would have to agree, if they’re a hatchery fish - let em’ go. The ODFW does not want those fish to reproduce with the wild or native fish but at this point, it’s too late. They’ve already done their annual duty and now they’re looking to go back out to do it all again next year. Just think - when they return they could be - or will be that much bigger for the next awaiting angler. The Siuslaw is currently running at 6.5’ with pretty good color. Forecasted to see a slight bump and then back down it’ll come. The fishing should continue to be productive as February is typically a better Winter Steelhead month.

Hot Fishing Action on the Siuslaw

Fishing has been hot on the siuslaw with fish like these in the middle runs based on water levels. We have had 7 and 8 fish days as well as your 3 and 4 fish days. The river has been pretty productive when the water is off color. So far the majority of the fish haver been fin cliped. This great steelhead run is comming on the heels of a record siver/coho run and if this trend continues we will have a monster spring chinook run this spring and all the indecators are pointing that direction... The best fishing should be from May 10th to July 10th, for Spring Chinook and Summer Steelhead clear through Sept and Oct...
Remember everything has upturns and down turns we are definetly in a up turn. Good fishing to you all and have fun...

What my clients say
" The tools of the trade: the freshest bait and tackle are always the best available. A clean state of the art drift boat with a heater (for those chilly days) and a professional atmosphere makes the time spent on the water even that much more enjoyable each and every time. "
